Motivation
"Desire is the key to motivation, but it's determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal - a commitment to excellence - that will enable you to attain the success you seek."
Mario Andretti
I will lose at least five pounds in 35 days, and I've found a few motivations for walking.
1. A decent audio book. I am now listening to The Four Hour Work Week: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich by Timothy Ferris. Just to be clear, in case work is reading... I do not intend to quit my 9 to 5, er.. my 8:30 to 7:30. It's a book. It's interesting. Just to be clear. :)
2. Walking to and from Subway (just over a mile away) to pick up my 280 calorie 6" turkey sub.
3. Stopping in at Chesapeake Wine Co. to pick up my favorite wine as a nightcap (okay, so maybe this is the true motivation for two miles).
All I have to say is I've had less than 1,000 calories today, and I've speed walked two miles. I will lose at least five pounds. Motivation and determination go hand in hand. I've never called myself sporty, but strong-willed? THAT, I am...

Hon, if you're eating less than 1,000 calories a day, you should really have a doctor following your diet. That's dangerous! You might not even be eating enough for your body to keep up with what it needs just to function, i.e., respiration, heartrate, liver and kidney function, etc. Do a little research, ok? :)
I'm an RN, and it always worries me when I see people dieting to that extreme without the supervision of a doctor. And you may not think so, but anything less than 1,000 calories IS extreme.
Your hours are 8:30 - 7:30? Wow! That's a long day!
I don't think anyone really wants advice when trying to lose weight, just encouragement. Do what makes you feel good about yourself and take care of yourself. If you want a walking partner, let me know. I'd drive down just to walk :)
Danielle, I'm not offering advice as in, "This is the best way to lose weight, it worked for me so you have to do it, too."
As an RN, I am stating that your body needs a certain amount of calories per day just to function, which is something that most people don't think about before starting a diet. And you need to find out what that amount is before dieting. Less than 1,000 calories is dangerous, and Charissa deserves to know that. :)
Doctor's should ALWAYS follow diets when the person will be consuming less than 1,000 calories a day. You could be causing damage and not even know it.
So, as an RN, and just someone that enjoys this blog, I want you to be healthy, Charissa. It's not meant to be snarky.
Not that I often give advice but if you are working 11 hour days you should quit your job immediately. Even if you get paid for watching porn nobody should work those kinds of hours.
