I Need Your Help: Reader Poll
Okay, all... I need assistance. I know it's a bit early, but I am trying to decide which class at CCBC I will take in the Spring. I've narrowed it down to four choices, but I now I need some feedback. Thoughts?
1. Dance: Basic Belly Dancing for Beginners - Fun and also good for the "abs, buns, thighs and posture..." Five total classes, but on Monday nights at 7 PM . Ick. ($50)
2. History: Perspectives on Jesus - "Examine a variety of perspectives on the life and teachings of Jesus." This is especially interesting considering that I have a lot of questions regarding my faith. To believe [in Jesus] or not to believe... 6 classes on a Tuesday. ($70)
3. Design: Calligraphy Beginning - "Use this beautiful and artistic handwriting for creative invitations, business cards and announcements..." or for my card-making and scrapbooking, I'm thinking. Might be a nice skill to have considering my cursive sucks. 8 classes on Thursdays. ($70)
4. Music: Harmonica Fundamentals - "Complete beginners will learn how to play the harmonica and will explore the various styles used in folk and blues traditions." Too cool. 8 classes and Monday nights. ($75)
Help.

take the jesus class! sounds the most interesting to me.
I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that most guys who respond to this post are going to vote for belly dancing.
Are these for-credit or not-for-credit classes? Just curious. Basic Belly Dancing soundsd fun - you get to learn a fascinating Middle Eastern art form AND get your daily workout out of the way! Plus, it's the cheapest one. Is this one at Catonsville, Dundalk or Essex?
Re: Snay:
Probably, but I kind of skewed the result, didn't I? Wait for some straight guys to comment next, they'll choose belly dancing for a different reason ;D

I choose Belly Dancing per type, in hopes that there will be plenty of pictures.
Although, honestly, it sounds like the most interesting class; while I think calligraphy is cool (not per type), most of what I know about it I've picked up from copying fonts out of a Letraset catalog...
And I think you might be too happy to really work the harmonica.
I will exclude my comments on Jesus.
I suggest either belly dancing, which I took here in Akron by the way or Perspectives on Jesus, which may help you or may make the questions even worse.
One is good for the body and soul, the other for the mind and soul in so different ways.
You won't be sorry for either, unless the Perspectives on Jesus makes you ask even harder questions.
I took belly dance for 2 years. Loved it, but 5 classes won't do anything for your abs. It was fun though. I am right there with you on my faith. I would take the class on Jesus, what wonderful discussions you can have.
I say the design or harmonica class. In my opinion, the belly dancing thing is a bit overrated (or should I say I just couldn't get the hang of it?). But if you take dance, then you'd get more mileage out of your snake-charmer h-ween costume! I don't think you'll be disappointed whatever you choose =)
Calligraphy calligraphy calligraphy! (says the crafty girl ;) )
Belly dancing because it will go along with your current profile photo.
May I respond in a pastoral capacity here? ;-)
I say take belly dancing, because one is more likely to experience the Spirit of God while dancing than reading theology. As much as I love theology, this is a cold hard fact.
In lieu of that class, pick up "Meeting Jesus Again for the First Time" by Marcus Borg, or maybe even his newer book (which I haven't yet read but I trust him enough to recommend) "The Heart of Christianity." Reading MJAFTFT was a life-changing experience for me, for sure. I can't even imagine the impact of such a book when paired with weekly belly dancing sessions.
That's my two cents. :-)
The class on Jesus isn't "history", it's mythology.
Go for the harmonica.
If you decide on belly dancing, can I take it with you? I've been wanting to try something like that.
Harmonica!
belly dancing sounds the most interesting, and yes its also the cheapest. but with only having 5 classes, you'll need to take another one next session.
I vote for number one. It sounds like a lot of fun. Calligraphy is a bigger pain in the butt than it sounds.
I say take the calligraphy class. It will make your card crafting so much more personal. But, the belly dancing sounds fun too... and you have an outfit...hahaha.
take pottery! I took a "try it" class in March and I've been hooked ever since. If you want the 411 on where I take it, when, how much $$ etc, email me.
Boy am I torn. Here are the current votes (I think):
Belly Dancing: |||||||
Jesus: |||
Calligraphy: |||
Hamonica: |||
(And one vote for pottery. Thanks, Zenchick.)
Maybe I should take more than one, or go buy a book or two and see how many I can do on my own before Spring. Geez.
