Reader Poll: Sausage Seeds

Does anyone know what kind of seeds are in sausage and if the seeds change from sausage type to sausage type?

They are caraway seeds. I am not sure if they change from type to type, but I have only ever noticed them in italian sausage.

This suggests that the seeds vary a lot by recipe. From skimming, seems like caraway seeds, coriander, and mustard seeds are all popular...

Oh, I'm with ACW. My first thought was..."I was pretty sure that sausage was a meat and therefore, not a vegetable with seeds..." but then the thought of jokes practically overwhelmed me and I had to stop.

But I love you still. See you this weekend?

I've usually seen coriander or caraway seeds. Sometimes fennel seed.

Fennel, Caraway, Coriander, Mustard, you name it.... I'm more interested in what generated the question in the first place??

Wow. Good information! I also had a few dirty jokes running through my head (sausage + seed... nevermind), but I tried to take the higher road.

As for how this question came about - I'm a weirdo. My thought process went as follows:

- Yum! This Turkey sausage is good.
- Ew. A seed. I didn't know Turkey sausage had seeds.
- Of course, it has seeds, it's sausage.
- Why does sausage have seeds, anyway?
- I hate when sausage on pizza has seeds.
- Seeds are gross.
- What kind of seeds are these?

So there you go... this thought process was followed by Charissa asking everyone who sits around her if they knew what kinds of seeds were in sausage. And after I thoroughly confused everyone at work, I decided to extend the confusion to the web.

Like I said - I'm weird. I know.
