I have had a headache for 5 days... my forehead feels like it is going to explode. Can't take painkillers because I've been over using them. Anyone know any home remedies (other than caffeine) that will help?
Do you have a history of migraines? With your headache, does it affect your vision in any way, or do you get nausea? Even without those side effects though, it could still be a lingering migraine. Call and speak with your doctor's nurse about things you can try, and they may even give you free samples of migraine meds you can try. I take Maxalt when I notice a migraine starting, and it works great.
JJT is also right, rest and an ice pack in a darkened room will usually help wonderfully.
And if possible, try not to stare at a computer screen too long everyday. I know that will be hard, since you like computer games, but that can also cause strain and headaches. :)
Just curious, when you say you've been overusing painkillers, how many milligrams have you been taking everyday?
I notice that I get headaches from using pain killers..Kind of like from coming down off of them..just a thought.. a good ole ice pack always works wonders for me..most of the time I use that and then take a nap. Feel better sunshine... ~annie
you're stressed out. Also Rissa are you taking vitamins? I ALWAYS get a terrible headache when my iron is low, I take a multivitamin and I am feeling better soon after. But you are also stressed out. You need to try and regroup/relax a bit. You're in an overwhelming state right now.

Steam. Lots of it.
Curling up with a cat.
You laugh, but when I tuck Guy under my arm when I've got a headache and lay down, he seems to draw the pain unto himself.
Poor cat.
Massage! When would you like one? Please call for your free appointment :)
For the long lingering headache, rest seems to be the cure. From personal experience, I think the cause is fatigue.
For the occasional migraine, I find an icepack or cold compress does wonders. The occasional bath while doing so also helps.
I realize with that last statement, I have now somewhat emasculated myself.
