Bawlmer Smoking Ban
It passed. It's amazing. Hat tip to Danielle for sponsoring this effort all the way through. I believe it has to pass two more committees before it's completely official... but everyone's expecting that it will this year.
I am interested to see how this plays out in the city... where there are few places for smokers to congregate outside of local bars (think: Canton). Bars might have to go to hand stamps or something to track the patrons coming in and out of the building to smoke in the great outdoors.
Time will tell...

i wonder if this applies to my favorite opium den...
Thanks Charissa, I just did a tiny bit. Hats off to Mayor Sheila Dixon, City Council President Stephanie Rawlings Blake, the bill's sponsors: Robert W. Curran and Kenneth N. Harris, Sr., and the public interest groups that organized support.
It's officially official now. Yesterday was the third vote aka final passage. Sheila Dixon just has to sign it. Then, it will go into effect Jan 1, 2008.
J$ - I think your opium den could qualify for a waiver along with other private clubs/lodges/cigar bars :)
Congrats! At first when NYC went non-smoking we all thought what a hassle. The only real problem is us non-smokers being left at the table by ourselves while the smokers step outside. It is so nice to come home after being out all night and not smelling.
We've had one here since Aubs was born. It is great being able to take her into a restaurant without having to worry. It was actually voted into being by the residents of Florida. At least we can get one thing on the ballot right!!
