Netflix Was A Downer

Oh. My. God. I'm depressed. I just watched Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room documentary. What a disaster. I had a job in the energy industry about 4 years ago, working for the company that was ultimately blamed for the August 2003 NYC blackouts. Enron collapsed while I was still at that company... but by the time the details of the bankruptcy emerged, I had moved on to another career. I guess I never followed the story very well after that. This film was insane.

This documentary (and the book that it is based off of) details the rise and fall of the great company. It wasn't the billions lost or millions cashed out that hit me the hardest - even though it's unreal. It was the magnitude of the scandal. There were so many players that everyone had to know what was going on. 'Everyone' from Arthur Andersen to the 7 or 8 banks that financed Enron's business. As someone in the documentary stated, "No one said no." They got away with murder.

As the final credits roll, this way creepy song plays in the background: "God's Away on Business" by Tom Waits. I'd never heard it before, but it was creepy as all get-out. That song is going to give me nightmares.

To read the lyrics, click here, but this is a sample.
I'd sell your heart to the junk-man baby for a buck, for a buck!
If you're looking for someone to pull you out of that ditch,
You're out of luck, you're out of luck

I also found the video on YouTube. It completely freaks me out. DO NOT WATCH IT if you don't want to feel paranoid afterwards. It's sooo creepy.

At least you admit it's disturbing. Man, I am having a weird few days with movie choices. Thank God BB7 is on tonight.
